Around 60 milling professionals from areas west of the Rocky Mountains attended the annual fall meeting of the Western District in San Diego, California. This is the third time the group has met at the Horton Grand Hotel in the city’s beautiful Gaslamp Quarter.
The meeting featured technical and What’s New presentations on August 16.
The technical session included presentations on sanitation transportation by Ron Galle, ADM Milling Company. Dawson Mosey, Bratney, presented on the Omas Leonardo roller mill. Claudia Carter from the California Wheat Commission provided valuable insight into current wheat quality research. Leonard Mongiello, IFC, reviewed integrated pest management for flour/grain mills. Jeff Seeger, Great Western Mfg., provided new innovations in sifter, sieves and accessories. Ed LaPreze, Pepper Maintenance showed how ultrasonic inspections can benefit a facility.
Afshin Nayeri, Kice Industries, talked about the impacts of process changes on a dust collection system.
Josh Delcamp, Green Future, shared information about repairing bin silos. Ferris Vanbeselaere, Hood Packaging, provided information about paper fiber bags. The last speaker, Karl Ledergerber from Bühler, shared information on the company’s TUBO conveyor.
Networking continued on Thursday evening at the annual reception and banquet. The installation of a newly elected slate of officers was a highlight of the evening.
Some 28 golfers enjoyed the picture perfect morning on August 17 at the Riverwalk Golf Course in San Diego. They played a four-person scramble with prizes awarded to the top teams and hole-prize winners.
