The Western District held its fall technical conference at the Summit at Big Sky Montana.
Around 60 milling professionals and their guests attended the annual Western District technical conference on August 17 in Big Sky, Montana. Upon arrival, several groups met at the venue on the eve of the technical session for informal networking.
The technical session featured presentations on FSMA, magnets, new sifting products, blower maintenance and innovations, integrated pest management, impacts of process changes on dust collection systems, ultrasonic inspections, NIR inline analysis, and new facility expansion. The final speaker conducted a Q&A on the craft brewing industry.
Despite the cool temperatures on August 18, around 28 golfers participated in a golf scramble at the Big Sky Golf Course. The shotgun start was briefly delayed as the players waited for the frost to dissipate. All teams finished shortly after noon when prizes were awarded to the top teams and hole-prize winners.
The District elected a new slate of officers for the 2017-18 year. The officers are:
Director Nelson Selmer, Ardent Mills
