IAOM-KSU Advanced Milling Principles at Henan University (China)

Participants will learn quantitative tools and practices to influence and impact, optimal machine adjustment, milling efficiency and flour quality in the mill. The course will be taught in English by instructors from Kansas State University and Henan University.   

Course objective: Expanding on topics from the Basic Milling Principles course to include quantitative techniques to analyze and improve the process flow; understanding the variables that impact production efficiencies; and enhance the troubleshooting skills of mill personnel.

Course topics: Wheat kernel characteristic; cleaning for optimal grain quality; conditioning and tempering; analysis of mill flow sheets and design; analysis of mill balance and product distribution; in-depth study of function, design and set-up of roller mills, sifters and purifiers; cumulative attribute curves and their uses; starch damage; impact of wheat quality on mill performance; process control and challenges.

Required skill level: Theoretical milling background (milling school, university or other milling training). Practical work experience in a flour mill or other completed milling training.

Who should attend: Milling engineers, operation managers, production managers, head millers and shift managers.

Course minimum: 10 participants.

Accommodation: A block of rooms ranging in price from $50-$90 US/night has been reserved at the Zhengzhou Glory Grand Hotel in Zhengzhou, China.

Visa Support: Visa support will be provided by the Henan University of Technology.

Airport Transfers:  May be arranged through the University at the cost of $30 one-way.

Course fees cover tuition, lab fees, books, special instruction, materials, lunch on class days, visa support and transportation to/from hotel/university on class days. Fees do not include lodging at the Zhengzhou Glory Grand Hotel, airfare, airport transfers or evening meals.
