Richard "Dick" Bradford

Richard C. “Dick” Bradford, AOM President for 1958-59, was a 43-year veteran of the milling business, having begun his career as an oiler at the Los Angeles flour mill of Globe Grain & Milling Co. in May, 1933. He worked his way through various  assignments with Globe, and made the transition to Pillsbury Flour Mills Co. when they acquired Globe in 1940.

Bradford was promoted to management positions along the way, and he served as general milling superintendent for Pillsbury Mills at Minneapolis before returning to the West Coast in 1951 as the Sacramento mill manager.

In 1961, The Pillsbury Co. erected a new flour mill at City of Commerce (East Los Angeles), and Bradford was selected to be the plant manager. He continued to serve in that capacity until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1977.

In addition to service on the board of directors, IAOM benefited from Bradford’s involvement as an officer in both the Golden West and Flour City districts. His participation in, and support of IAOM activities has been well documented. No less than three IAOM past-presidents were fortunate to have worked closely with Bradford at influential points in their careers, and were duly influenced by his support of the association.

Bradford passed away in February 2004 at a senior residence center in San Juan Capistrano, California.
